St. Charles Borromeo Parish is a vibrant Catholic community of 1,300 families in Lima, Ohio, home to a thriving Catholic school serving more than 400 students. St. Charles is now building a seamless pathway of faith formation that walks with parishioners from childhood through adulthood — forming missionary disciples at every stage of life.

Central to this vision is a parishwide embrace of the small group discipleship, based upon the design of the Live Jesus Ministries (LJM) model, dedicated to helping parishes and schools cultivate spiritual mentorship and small group discipleship. Through this approach, St. Charles is developing a culture where every parishioner — from young children to adults — is invited into authentic relationships of accompaniment, mentorship, and growth in the Catholic faith.

To carry this vision forward, St. Charles Parish is seeking passionate, mission-driven leaders to join our Evangelization & Discipleship team in the following roles:

Director of Religious Education — leading faith formation, catechesis, and sacramental preparation for children (Birth–Grade 6) and their families
Youth & Young Adult Discipleship Coordinator — mentoring and discipling youth (Grades 7–12), young adults, and engaged/newly married couples
Director of Adult Faith Formation & Discipleship — guiding adult formation, OCIA, and parishwide evangelization efforts

Director of Religious Education (DRE)

General Summary

The Director of Religious Education advances the mission of St. Charles Borromeo Parish—to build a community of faith united with Christ in the Eucharist, living as disciples, sharing God’s love and grace—by leading faith formation for children and families.

The DRE oversees family faith formation, children’s catechesis, parent formation, and sacramental preparation for children from birth through Grade 6. A primary focus is equipping parents as the primary educators of their children in the Catholic faith and developing a culture of evangelization, discipleship, and small faith-sharing groups among families.

The DRE collaborates with parish staff, the parish school, catechists, volunteers, and Live Jesus Ministries to strengthen Catholic faith formation and create a seamless pathway of discipleship from childhood through adulthood.

Key Responsibilities

Family Faith Formation

Direct and oversee faith formation for K–6 children who do not attend a Catholic school or religious homeschool program.
Recruit, train, equip, and support catechists and volunteers.
Evaluate and improve curriculum and faith formation methods.
Communicate regularly with parents and families.
Equip parents to serve as the primary educators of their children in the faith.
Develop opportunities for family discipleship, missionary activity, and ongoing engagement.

Children’s Catechesis

Oversee Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) and explore expansion into Levels II and III.
Strengthen Catholic identity and catechetical formation in collaboration with the parish school.
Integrate CGS more fully into parish life and explore opportunities for parish-school collaboration.

Sacramental Preparation

Coordinate preparation for Baptism, First Reconciliation, and First Holy Communion for children.
Oversee the administrative and practical details associated with these sacraments.
Prepare parents for the Baptism of infants and young children.
Collaborate with the Director of Adult Faith Formation & Discipleship in accompanying children ages 8–12 in the OCIA process.

Parish Ministry & Collaboration

Serve as a member of the Pastoral Ministry Team.
Collaborate with the Evangelization & Discipleship Team to expand a culture of small-group discipleship throughout parish life.
Lead and empower staff, catechists, and volunteers.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Qualifications & Skills

Degree or certificate in Theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field preferred.
Practicing Catholic, registered at St. Charles, with a strong commitment to Catholic teaching, Gospel values, and the mission of the Church.
Demonstrated commitment to prayer, discipleship, and serving God’s people.
At least two years of catechetical ministry experience, paid or volunteer; significant experience in Catholic faith formation preferred.
Understanding of childhood development, family dynamics, and effective faith formation.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to recruit, train, lead, empower, and delegate to volunteers and ministry teams.
Self-motivated, flexible, proactive, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities within a budget.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with maturity.

Director of Adult Faith Formation & Discipleship (DAFFD)

The Director of Adult Faith Formation & Discipleship advances the mission of St. Charles Borromeo Parish—to build a community of faith united with Christ in the Eucharist, living as disciples, sharing God’s love and grace—by fostering a culture of lifelong faith formation, intentional discipleship, evangelization, and hospitality.

The DAFFD accompanies adults from initial inquiry and OCIA through ongoing discipleship and leadership development, while creating opportunities for adults to grow in faith and become active participants in parish life. A primary focus is developing a small-group discipleship culture throughout the parish.

The DAFFD also leads the parish’s hospitality and engagement efforts, helping newcomers feel welcomed, connected, and integrated into parish life. In collaboration with Live Jesus Ministries and the Evangelization & Discipleship Team, this position helps establish a unified approach to evangelization and discipleship across parish ministries.

Key Responsibilities

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)

Lead and oversee the parish OCIA process for those seeking Baptism, full communion with the Catholic Church, or completion of their initiation.
Recruit, form, and support OCIA team members for Inquiry, Catechumenate, and Mystagogy.
Recruit, train, and mentor sponsors.
Coordinate the liturgical and formation journey through Lent, Easter, and Mystagogy.
Accompany individuals through their journey of conversion and integration into parish life.

Adult Faith Formation

Strengthen and support existing adult faith formation ministries, including Bible studies, small groups, book studies, and men’s and women’s ministries.
Coordinate seasonal studies and parish-wide formation opportunities.
Develop additional opportunities such as Bible studies, theology nights, retreats, parish missions, workshops, and faith-sharing groups.
Promote a culture of lifelong learning, prayer, discipleship, and spiritual growth.

Hospitality & Parish Engagement

Develop a welcoming culture and hospitality ministry throughout the parish.
Create and implement processes for welcoming, following up with, and integrating new parishioners.
Help parishioners discover their gifts and charisms and connect them with appropriate parish ministries and opportunities for service.
Recruit, train, and support parishioners in hospitality and engagement ministries.

Evangelization & Discipleship

Provide strategic leadership for the parish’s evangelization and discipleship efforts.
Lead the Evangelization & Discipleship Team in developing and expanding the small-group discipleship approach throughout parish life.
Foster collaboration and alignment among parish ministries to create a cohesive pathway of discipleship.
Lead and empower staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
Serve as a member of the Pastoral Ministry Team.

General Summary

The Youth & Young Adult Discipleship Coordinator advances the mission of St. Charles Borromeo Parish—to build a community of faith united with Christ in the Eucharist, living as disciples, sharing God’s love and grace—by fostering intentional discipleship among youth in Grades 7–12, young adults, and engaged and newly married couples.

The primary focus of this position is to build meaningful relationships and provide intentional accompaniment through spiritual mentorship and small-group discipleship. Rather than focusing primarily on large events, retreats, or activities, the YYADC develops, forms, and supports a community of adult mentors who can effectively disciple and accompany youth and young adults in their Catholic faith.

The YYADC serves as the parish point person for youth and young adult evangelization and discipleship, working closely with Live Jesus Ministries (LJM) and the parish Evangelization & Discipleship Team. The goal is to develop intentional disciples who will go forth and share the Gospel and Catholic faith with others.

Key Responsibilities

Spiritual Mentorship & Discipleship

Coordinate and oversee parish Live Jesus discipleship groups for youth and young adults.
Recruit, train, form, mentor, and support adult spiritual mentors.
Develop and launch new small discipleship groups.
Build a strong community among mentors through ongoing formation, support, and fellowship.
Serve as the primary discipler and formator of adult mentors serving youth and young adults.
Organize a select number of retreats, service opportunities, and large-group gatherings that support the small-group discipleship model.
Collaborate regularly with Live Jesus Ministries and participate in required coordinator training and formation.

Sacramental & Marriage Preparation

Coordinate Confirmation preparation for 8th-grade students using the spiritual mentorship model.
Oversee the administrative and practical details of the Confirmation program.
Integrate Confirmation into an ongoing life of discipleship rather than treating it as an endpoint.
Assist the Director of Adult Faith Formation & Discipleship in accompanying adolescents through the OCIA process.
Coordinate mentor couples and accompany engaged couples through marriage preparation.

Parish Ministry & Collaboration

Serve as a member of the Pastoral Ministry Team.
Collaborate with the Evangelization & Discipleship Team to develop and integrate a small-group culture throughout parish life.
Work collaboratively with parish staff, volunteers, parents, mentors, and ministry leaders.
Empower and equip others to take ownership of youth and young adult discipleship.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor or Director of Adult Faith Formation & Discipleship.

Qualifications & Skills

At least five years as a faithful, active disciple of Jesus within the Catholic Church.
